Late/Absence Procedures

Every morning, a school leader will come out at 08:25 to catch up with children and parents, and take any messages for the day. Please gather outside Holly class, not on the path.

At 08:30 parents may leave their children as the 'big doors' open, and as a school we take over supervision. From this moment, teachers and TAs are in their classrooms welcoming children in. At 08:45 the morning register is taken and at 08:50 the gates are closed.

Children arriving after this time will be marked late or if not in school by 09:00, absent. Once registers have been received and collated, we will call any parents whose children are absent unless we have already been informed of the reason.

If you know your child is not coming into school, it is important that you ring or email the office immediately. We listen to answerphone messages and read emails from 08:30 daily.

A form is available for planned absence, which must always be completed by parents. Please note however, term time holiday can never be granted by the headteacher, although certain other circumstances may be approved for children with otherwise exemplary attendance records.

In the case of vomiting or diarrhoea, your child should not return until 48 hours has passed from the last bout. For example if they are sick at school on a Tuesday lunchtime, they would not return until Friday morning.

We do not test for covid. The final 2022 government guidance was that children (and staff) attend school unless they have a temperature or a cough/cold so bad that they cannot control or 'catch' sneezing/coughing, or are genuinely very unwell and need bed rest.

Good attendance at school is critical to children's success in life. Parents are responsible in law for ensuring their child attends school regularly and fines and further action can be considered if children have high rates of absence without justifiable reason.
