Welcome to Larch Class

Welcome back to the new school year 2024 / 2025 and I hope it will be a really positive and exciting year for everyone in Larch Class!  

You will find below a few key messages, our timetable and some activities that you will need to get your child prepared for during the school week.

Mrs Wilkinson on a Monday

Mrs S Wilkinson will be teaching Larch Class on a Monday and she has met the children last term so they know her.  Mrs Wilkinson is a Year 1/2 teacher at Worstead School and is experienced in KS1. 

PE 

This half term the Year 1 and Year 2 will be taking part in separate PE lessons.

Year 1 will have PE on a Thursday afternoon and they can come to school dressed in their PE kit on a Thursday.

Year 2 will have PE on a Monday afternoon and they can come to school dressed in their PE kit on a Monday.

Forest School

This year we have the exciting chance for Larch class to take part in the Forest Schools programme in our Calm Woods.  Year 2 will be the first year group to take part in this on a Thursday afternoon, followed by Year 1 AFTER half term.  For this activity the Year 2 children can dress in long trousers and a long-sleeved top, shoes that are not school shoes such as trainers, old hiking boots and they also have their wellingtons which are at school that they can use.  They will also need a water-proof coat and please just prepare for them to get muddy!  They will need a spare change of clothes in case they get wet as well.  Please can you put the spare change of clothes in a plastic bag and bring them to school on Thursday morning next week.  Please see the office if you have any questions about this.  More details will be put in our school newsletter. 

Phonics and Reading:

Year 1:  We will be starting Phonics next week and the children will be given a Little Wandle Phonics reading book with a letter about when the books will be changed each week.

Year 2:  Most of the Year 2 children will move on from phonics this year and therefore they will not have as Little Wandle Phonics book, just a levelled reading for pleasure book which we hope to change twice a week.  Please can you try and hear your child read every night – just for 5 minutes if you can – as it does make such a difference to their understanding of the text. 

Spellings:

The children will be given spellings every Friday and they will be given a spelling book to take home.  This year we are trying to encourage the children to write their spellings every night so that they can practise them at home.  We will monitor the books as they come back to school each morning and if your child writes the spellings every night they will get a certificate in our celebration assembly on a Friday.
