The Belfry CE VA Primary School

Fantastic Footballers

A team of Belfry children took part in North Norfolk School Sports Partnership’s inaugural football tournament at Youngs Park, Aylsham last Tuesday.

As well as encouraging one another, showing good sportsmanship and respect to represent our school brilliantly, they went unbeaten, didn’t concede a goal and came home with the winners trophy. Mini match reports below.

Belfry 1 – O Coltishall – A dominant performance from Belfry with the Coltishall keeper making a string of excellent saves to keep the score at 0-0. Ultimately, it was a stunning, Van Basten-esque volley from Stanley, following a Raff throw in which decided it.

Belfry 0 – 0 Cromer – A much tighter game, this, with Cromer have more of the play and it being Barnaby’s turn in the Belfry goal to make lots of top quality saves to keep the clean sheet.

Belfry 2 – 0 Pathfinders – Another dominant performance with Pathfinders defending in numbers to keep it 0-0 at half time. Deploying an extra striker in the second half, Belfry continued to pressure and the deadlock was eventually broken by George after a smart interception and driving run forwards. Stanley added a second to secure the win.

Belfry 1 – 0 Colby – An end-to-end game with both keepers making fine saves. For Belfry, Barnaby tipped on onto the post and Thomas made a fine goal-saving block on the line. A smart finish from Stanley proved the difference on the scoresheet but it was running, effort and tackling from Ted, Rupert, Hugo and Finley that really made the difference.

Well done, team and many thanks to the parents who helped with transport.
